Introduction
The Personal Development curriculum is focused around educating our learners for life so that they are able to leave The Radclyffe School as well-rounded members of the community and citizens of modern-day Britain. There are three core themes that will be explored at an age appropriate level at Key Stage 3. These three themes are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
Through the provision the students will be encouraged to:
- develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence
- distinguish right from wrong and respect the civil and criminal law of England
- accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and society more widely
- further tolerance and trust between different cultural traditions by enabling them to appreciate and respect their own and others’ cultures
- respect democracy and support participation in the democratic processes, including respect for the basis on which law is made and applied in England.
Independent Advice and Guidance (IAG)
IAG ensures students get the support they need to make well informed, realistic decisions about their future through careers education, information, advice and guidance. All students will receive a 1-1 meeting with a Level 6 Careers Adviser to discuss their skills, attributes and aspirations.
Learners’ Needs
The careers programme is designed to meet the needs of learners at The Radclyffe School. Activities are differentiated and personalised to ensure progression in their career learning and development, and to strengthen their motivation, aspirations and attainment at school.
Entitlement
Learners are entitled to information, advice and guidance, which meets professional standards of practice, is delivered by trained staff and is person-centred, impartial and confidential.
Activities will be embedded in the curriculum and based on a partnership with learners and their parents/carers. The programme will raise aspirations, challenge stereotyping and promote equality and diversity.
