A guide to the Personal Learning Guide
Every student at The Radclyffe School is assigned to a PLG team. Each group is led and supported by two Personal Learning Guides. These are key staff who are dedicated to guiding the group to encourage and support the individual success and wellbeing of your child.
At 8.30am each morning, PLG teams meet as a group for 20 minutes before timetabled lessons begin. This helps to ensure that students are organised and prepared for learning and promotes a calm and settled start to the day. Students feel confident and assured in the expectations of the school and establish good routines from the outset. Each team will engage in different daily activities where group discussion is encouraged.
An example of the themes are displayed below:
Day | Activity |
---|---|
Monday | Motivational Monday |
Tuesday | Weekly Assembly – Via MS Streams |
Wednesday | Wellbeing Wednesday |
Thursday | Thinking Thursday |
Friday | Friday Feeling – Weekly Team News Quiz / Group Debate |
At KS3 we have a clear focus on improving and supporting reading and literacy. Groups will spend 2 sessions a week reading together and completing key activities. At KS4 we highlight the importance of revision techniques and engage students in key English & Maths revision each week.
During PLG time, students will also have the opportunity to speak to their PLG on a 1:1 basis at least once every half term. This allows both the student and the member of staff to build a trusting relationship and helps the PLG gain a better understanding of the individual in order to offer the most effective support. 1:1 meetings will focus on getting to know the student and personal wellbeing, whilst also allowing them to reflect on their learning, achievements and areas where they feel they may need additional support.
Team PLG aims to give each individual student a sense of belonging and offers both personal and group reflection time in order to help them improve their progress and be successful in achieving their potential.
