This week, TRS students and staff had the privilege of attending a two day Great Horizons event, a celebration of science, learning, and inspiration, with Professor Brian Cox.
The event began on Tuesday evening with the Great Horizons Teacher Celebration, attended by several members of our science department. It was a brilliant night spent alongside educators who truly understand the challenges and rewards of teaching science and share a deep commitment to giving young people the best possible science education. The opportunity to connect with passionate colleagues was both motivating and energising.
On Wednesday, our GCSE Astronomy students joined the main event at OSFC, where they were captivated by a fascinating keynote speech from Professor Brian Cox. His engaging talk made science feel accessible, exciting and relevant, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among our students.
A standout moment was hearing from former Radclyffe student James Walsh, who shared his inspiring journey into a STEM career. His story resonated deeply, showing our students the real life possibilities that science can open up.
We were also incredibly proud of Laaiba, one of our current students, who confidently submitted a question to Professor Cox, representing the school with great poise and enthusiasm.
Another highlight worth mentioning was the success of our staff members, Ms Sharif and Mr Khan. Not only did they meet one of their science heroes and capture a selfie, but they also won a raffle prize and brought back a signed picture for our science corridor, a wonderful memento of the event.
Overall, the two days were a truly valuable experience for everyone involved, reinforcing our commitment to raising the profile of STEM subjects and inspiring our students to see science as an exciting and achievable career path. We look forward to building on the enthusiasm and fresh ideas sparked by this event in our lessons and enrichment activities.
