Our membership of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust continues to bring great benefits to all our students in Key Stage 3, as they learn to play a musical instrument, often for the first time. As part of a national network, being part of MiSST also enables our students to work together with young people from other partner schools.
The latest event saw a small group of students travel to London where they got to perform at an iconic music venue, the Camden Roundhouse. Hundreds of young musicians from schools across the country came together for the 11th MiSST Annual Concert.
A morning of rehearsals focused on several pieces of music that all the children had been learning in all the schools – Oye Como Va by Tito Puente and Carol Brittin-Chambers Byzantine Dances. All this hard work led up to a concert in the evening with an audience of distinguished guests. Together with the works they had learned, the evening concluded with a massed choir rendition of One Day More from the musical Les Miserables.
The day wasn’t all work however, with our students able to explore the interesting local area around the famous Camden Market.
Head of Music Mr Corrigan said, “To see our students performing in a professional venue, taking on these incredible opportunities, managing their own rehearsal schedule and acting with such confidence is something which I will always be beyond proud of. They were a credit to themselves, their families and the school and received high praise from everyone who met them throughout the day.”
