Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Year 5 and 6 pupils from Horton Mill, Stanley Road, and Bare Trees Primary Schools to celebrate their outstanding progress in reading.
These pupils were nominated by their schools for demonstrating remarkable progress, resilience, and enthusiasm for literacy. They, along with their families, joined us for an evening dedicated to celebrating their achievements.
The event, led by Mel Whybrow, Associate Assistant Headteacher for Transition, and supported by Headteacher John Cregg, offered a range of engaging activities designed to inspire a love of reading.
Pupils explored our library, enjoyed poetry written and performed by one of our students, and took part in a live debate led by our Debate Club, where they shared their favourite books and discussed why reading matters.
Families were also treated to performances from The Radclyffe School choir and had the chance to meet our students and staff, learning more about life at secondary school and the joy of reading.
The evening concluded with each pupil receiving a personalised certificate and choosing a book to take home as a memento of their achievements.
Mel Whybrow said, “We were incredibly proud of all our visitors and impressed by the enthusiasm and engagement shown by our own students in supporting this event. Reading has the power to bring people together and build confidence, and this evening celebrated exactly that.”
Headteacher John Cregg added, “Developing strong reading habits from a young age opens doors to future success. It was a pleasure to celebrate these pupils’ achievements and strengthen our links with our local primary schools.”
With literacy a key priority at The Radclyffe School, the event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate progress, recognise achievement, and continue building positive relationships within our community.
