Teaching and Learning
In Personal Development students are offered a broad and balanced curriculum to prepare them for the wider world. This is broken down into Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 3 – Year 7-9
Our Scheme of Work identifies the Key Concepts and skills that underpin PSHE Education and supports our students to develop spiritually, morally, culturally, mentally and physically. At Key Stage 3 students build on the skills, attitudes, values, knowledge and understanding they have acquired and developed during the primary phase. Our Scheme of Work covers 3 core themes within which there will be a broad overlap and flexibility:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
Key Stage 4 – Years 10 & 11
Our Personal Development Scheme of Work at Key Stage 4 develops students’ knowledge, understanding, skills and strategies required to live healthy, safe, productive, capable, responsible and balanced lives. It encourages them to be enterprising and supports them in making effective transitions, positive learning and career choices in achieving economic wellbeing. It enables them to recognise, accept and shape their identities to understand and accommodate difference and change, to manage emotions and to communicate constructively in a variety of settings. Developing an understanding of themselves, empathy and the ability to work with others will help students to form and maintain good relationships, develop essential skills for future employability and better enjoy and manage their lives. Our Scheme of Work builds on the work taught on the 3 core themes at Key Stage 4:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
Assessment
At The Radclyffe School our Personal Development Curriculum educates our learners for life, so that they are able to leave The Radclyffe School as well-rounded individual members of the community and citizens of modern day Britain. With this in mind we run the PIXL EDGE programme with our Year 7 and 8 students.
The aim of this programme is to develop and accredit students with those personal attributes essential for employability and life. We want our students to strive to be the best they can be. The LORIC programme will allow them to develop and be accredited for five key attributes which have been chosen for there formative qualities in character development as well as their desirability by employers.
The Edge’s 5 key attributes are:
- Leadership
- Organisation
- Resilience
- Initiative
- Communication
All students are introduced to the LORIC programme through their Personal Development curriculum offer and are given the opportunity to log their activities and provide evaluations for each one. We hope this will encourage them to get involved in as many extra-curricular opportunities as possible both in and out of school.
We want to ensure that your child leaves The Radclyffe School not only with the best qualifications possible but with personal attributes that allow them to stand our form the crowd and achieve their goals.
Resources and Rooms
There is a wide range of literature and information available for students to extend their learning both in our library and in the careers office. We also have a Positive Steps Careers adviser onsite to give up to date information on the World of Work and Labour Market Information. In addition to this student, parents and carers can access information and resources on both PIXL and Careers via our SharePoint page.
We also have a Personal Development Hub where students can attend during break and lunch times to seek further information on all aspects of their life.
Home Learning
Students are required to complete their PIXL Edge Qualification write ups for home learning. This will be set termly by the class teacher
