TRS Learning from 2003 – 2008
What did you go on to study after The Radclyffe School?
I went to Oldham Sixth Form to study Business & Law. I decided against going university because I wanted to get on the career ladder as soon as possible.
What does a typical day in your job look like?
Currently, I lead a team responsible for developing and executing strategic marketing campaigns to boost awareness and demand for our range of software solutions.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I love most about my job is the ability to be curiously creative and try and test different ways of doing things. Whether it’s running an amazing, interactive event, a great digital campaign or an engaging webinar, every channel and every activity requires creative collaboration. There’s beauty in diversity and people seeing things differently and with diversity comes innovation and success.
How did your experiences at The Radclyffe School help you with decisions on your future goals?
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I was in school and I realise now that’s ok. It’s absolutely fine to not have a clear picture because you have plenty of time to figure that out. I spent a few years of my Radclyffe years running a tuck shop with my fellow students. We went on to win several awards and it became a business. It was then I realised I was interested in how running a business works, learning about how to make a profit and how to spread the word about your products.
What is your favourite memory of life at The Radclyffe School?
There’s so many! I remember running for head-boy and it was our version of an electoral campaign; setting out our mandate, what we stood for and why we wanted people to vote. It was incredibly exciting. We entered a Dragons Den style competition for the school tuck shop where we went into pitch to the dragons why they should invest in our business ideas. We went to a glitzy awards ceremony and were announced as the winners! Our prize was the first every iPod – yes, that’s how old I am!
What advice would you give a Radclyffe School learner looking to study/work in the same field as you?
Be curious because this fuels your creativity. Don’t be afraid to bring your ideas to the table. Not only is marketing is a fast-paced and exciting path packed with opportunities to make efficient, decisive and strategic decisions. Marketing also leverages your communication skills and encourages you to empathise with those around you, especially your target audience.
What advice would you give to learners coming up to their final 2 years at The Radclyffe School and making decisions about their future?
If you have a plan of what you want to do, that’s amazing! But it’s also not ok to have a plan. Work hard – the main thing is focusing on the here and now because the work you put in now will dictate the next step you take in this wonderful thing called life.
