TRS Learning from 2012 – 2017
What did you go on to study after The Radclyffe School?
I went to Oldham sixth form college and studied A level biology, chemistry and PE. I then applied to study an undergraduate degree in biomedical science at Manchester metropolitan university.
What does a typical day in your job look like?
A typical day involves me teaching science to 4 different classes ranging from year 7 – 10 classes where I will teach ks3 and ks4 topics in science. The start of my day always begins with printing off resources ready for the day ahead.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy interacting with my students the most and helping them to develop their learning as well as working in such a positive friendly working environment with my colleagues.
How did your experiences at The Radclyffe School help you with decisions on your future goals?
My passion for science developed during my time studying at Radclyffe as this is where I was able to take part in practical experiments and learn more about the world of science. The environment Radclyffe created for me in the classrooms when I was studying there inspired my positive connotations of teaching and motivated me to work towards a career in teaching.
What is your favourite memory of life at The Radclyffe School?
My favourite memory of The Radclyffe School was going into school to receive my results which I was massively satisfied with. I also enjoyed the multiple PE lessons and range of opportunities provided to us through ELAT and the school football team.
What advice would you give a Radclyffe School learner looking to study/work in the same field as you?
I would advise them to build experience through the use of volunteering as this looks very impressive on a CV and it also helps skills develop which can be used universally. Volunteer to help staff members or help take a lead in extra curricular activity to build that communication and leadership skills.
What advice would you give to learners coming up to their final 2 years at The Radclyffe School and making decisions about their future?
Do not panic about making a set career choice! You have lots of time to decide your career. Keep your options open by doing research and see what interests you. Look at what jobs could result in your chosen path but DO NOT close off options! This is a big reason why I kept PE as an A level as it provided me with flexibility so I could pursue a range of careers. Pick a career you think you will enjoy because enjoyment is the biggest factor considering this is a job you may be planning to be in for 40 years!
