The visit from Ofsted inspectors in late February has led to celebrations at The Radclyffe School, as the Chadderton secondary was judged ‘Good’ in all categories and ‘Good’ overall. The grade recognises the excellent efforts at improvement that are continuing as the school prepares to join the Cranmer Education Trust. Inspectors noted that the school is ambitious for all its students, determined that they gain the knowledge and skills they need to thrive. They also note that: The … [Read more...]

Year 9 Reading ‘Small Island’ During Next Half Term
Dear Year 9 Parent/Carer, Next half term Year 9 will be studying a play called Small Island. It is a play by The National Theatre developed from a book by Andrea Levy. The play is about the experiences of the Windrush generation who emigrated to the UK in 1940s and '50s from Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands. It tackles issues of race, prejudice and inequality. The author of the book – who was born to parents of Jamaican descent – includes some examples of racially motivated slurs that … [Read more...]
FAQs – The decision of The Radclyffe School (TRS) to join The Cranmer Education Trust (CET)
1(a) Why have the governors submitted an application for TRS to join the Cranmer Education Trust? This is a decision that the governors have been weighing up for nearly two years. We want the best for our young people. With so many pressures on schools and communities, it makes sense to work together. We want to be a partner in a family that invests in its people and in its schools and shares the knowledge and experience; so that our students get the best a family of schools can offer. We … [Read more...]
Food Vouchers to cover the Christmas Holiday 2023 for Free School Meal Students
You may have read in the local media that Oldham Council has been allocated funding to support vulnerable residents through its Household Support Fund. Some of this funding will be used to cover food voucher support for children eligible for means tested Free School Meals over school holidays. We want to ensure that those eligible for free school meals on the grounds of low income receive a food voucher to cover the holiday at a rate of £40 per eligible child. The most effective way of … [Read more...]
Students Unwell In School Procedures
Dear Parents/Carer, We are seeing an increase in the number of parents arriving at reception wanting to collect their child because they are unwell, but the school has no knowledge that there is an issue or problem. It would appear that a minority of students are using their own mobile phones to contact home rather than following the school procedures when they feel unwell. This is difficult to manage and often leads to parents needlessly waiting for a long time. If your child feels unwell … [Read more...]

The school will pay the subsidised costs of the sessions, and we are not asking for any payment from parents/carers. Any questions can be directed … [Read more...]
End of day arrangements and parking on Hunt Lane
As we are sure that many of you are aware, Hunt Lane becomes very busy at the end of the school day when 1500 students leave school. To help provide a safe environment for our students, parents/carers and neighbours we ask that at the end of the day you do the following: If you live within walking distance of school, allow your child to walk home If you have to pick up your children in the car, park a short distance away from school and get your child to walk to you (Introducing … [Read more...]
Time to get green fingered and growing
The arrival of Summer after what was a cold and wet Spring has seen something growing in the school garden - students’ enthusiasm for planting, sowing, weeding and seeing the results of their efforts emerge from the ground. Over recent weeks, under the leadership of Mr Dalgleish and Mrs Capron, the school has trialled a lunchtime gardening club which is producing positive results. Already this term the students have: made sure that the raised beds were watered and weeded; and that the … [Read more...]
Targeted support enables students to progress
Students are discovering that ‘lost learning’ needn’t be lost forever. A national project to pair young people with a tutor, who they would meet online has been a great success in the past year. The time in school that was missed during the pandemic caused real concern that young people might have missed out and fallen behind in their study. During the past two years we have been part of the tutoring support scheme, offered free to students. For students working up towards their GCSEs, the … [Read more...]
