Huge congratulations to our Year 11 boys’ football team, who secured a dramatic and well-deserved victory in the final of the 2025 Oldham Schools Plate Trophy earlier this week!
Facing off against a strong North Chadderton side at Avro FC’s ground, the final proved to be a thrilling contest from start to finish. In a match filled with excitement and outstanding individual performances, our team showed immense character and determination to come from behind and clinch the win in the most dramatic fashion.
Despite being 4–2 down during the second half, the team refused to give up. With goals from Josh Ramsey, Ozan Sarioglu, and two impressive goals from Max Wylezol, who was later named Man of the Match, Radclyffe pulled level at 4–4, taking the game to penalties.
Both sides converted all five of their allocated spot kicks, sending the shootout to sudden death. It was then that goalkeeper Josh Taylor produced a moment of brilliance, diving expertly to his left to make the only save of the shootout. With the pressure firmly on, Caleb Nartey stepped up and coolly slotted the winning penalty past the North Chadderton keeper to secure a 6–5 victory, and the trophy!
The result was especially meaningful after last year’s disappointment in the same final, and the boys’ perseverance and team spirit shone through when it mattered most.
Mr Finc, the team coach, says:
“This team has been a pleasure to coach for the last 5 years and they deserved to win some silverware, especially in their final year together as a team.”
This outstanding achievement is a reflection of the dedication shown by every player throughout the tournament. With schools from across Oldham competing, to reach, and win, the final is a remarkable accomplishment.
Congratulations once again. Your hard work and determination have made us proud — and what a way to finish your school football journey!
