We had a fantastic evening at The Radclyffe School as we welcomed prospective students and their families to our Open Evening.
It was brilliant to see such a great turnout, with families arriving throughout the evening and the school buzzing from start to finish. There was plenty to see, do and get involved with, giving visitors the chance to explore our school and get a real feel for life at TRS.
Bringing learning to life
Across the school, our departments had been busy preparing activities, demonstrations and displays to give visitors a taste of what students can experience every day.
There were STEM On Track go-karts, interactive Sports activities and climbing, cameras and props in Drama, food tasters in our Café and plenty of student work on display. Science brought out the CSI investigations, alongside some suitably loud bangs, while History took visitors back in time with a Plague Doctor explaining 1,000-year-old approaches to diagnosis.
Our new Passport Challenge also proved very popular. Students collected stickers as they visited different departments, got involved with activities and explored more of what the school has to offer.
The Street was busy throughout the evening too, with performances from our students in Music, Drama, English and Poetry providing plenty of entertainment as families moved around the school.
Hearing from our students
Our students were at the heart of the evening.
Peer Mentors were on hand to welcome families, offer tours and share their own experiences of life at TRS, while students across the school helped departments, supported activities and demonstrations and performed throughout the evening.
We know that getting a feel for a secondary school is about so much more than seeing the building. For prospective families, meeting the people who make up the school community is just as important. Our students gave visitors the opportunity to ask questions, hear honest opinions and get a glimpse of what day-to-day life at TRS is really like.
They were friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming throughout the evening, and represented our school fantastically.
A school community effort
Alongside our students and subject departments, families were also able to meet members of our Pastoral and SEND teams and speak to staff about different aspects of school life.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success, from the staff who prepared activities and welcomed families, to everyone who helped behind the scenes.
Most of all, thank you to the students who gave up their evening to help. Whether they were giving tours, performing, answering questions, supporting a department or simply helping someone find their way around, they played a huge part in making the evening what it was.
We were incredibly proud to see them throw themselves into the evening and welcome so many visitors into our school.
