The Radclyffe School chess team were crowned champions at the Oldham Schools Annual Chess Competition after an outstanding unbeaten performance last week!
Hosted by North Chadderton School, the competition brought together teams from 10 schools across the borough, with The Radclyffe School represented by Year 11 students Yamin and Sayem, Year 9 student Hamza and Year 8 student Ethan.
The team produced a remarkable display throughout the day, winning all nine of their matches and finishing almost 10 points clear of second place. Across the entire tournament, they lost just five individual games.
The success continues what has been an excellent year for chess at The Radclyffe School and comes shortly after our own staff and student chess tournament, where Sayem was crowned champion.
There was also individual success for members of the team. Yamin was named Board 1 Champion after winning all nine of his matches, while Sayem secured the Board 2 Champion title with eight wins from nine games. Hamza and Ethan also impressed, each recording seven victories from their nine matches.
Dominic Franklin, Maths Teacher and leader of the school’s chess club, said:
“I was so proud of the boys and their achievements. They were fantastic throughout the day, and their behaviour and sportsmanship were exemplary.”
The victory is a reflection of the dedication, commitment and passion the students have shown throughout the year.
As well as achieving an outstanding result, they represented the school brilliantly and were excellent ambassadors for The Radclyffe School throughout the competition.
Congratulations to Yamin, Sayem, Hamza and Ethan on becoming Oldham Schools Chess Champions, and thank you to North Chadderton School for hosting such a successful event.
