Dear Parents/Carers,
Year 9 Curriculum and Options Evening
Thursday 20th March 4.00pm-7.00pm
It is at this point in the academic year where we ask our Year 9 learners to carefully consider which subjects they would like to study at Key Stage 4. To support these decisions, we are pleased to be able to welcome parents and carers of Year 9 students into school to attend our KS4 Curriculum and Options Evening on Thursday 20th March. This is a very important event in our calendar, and it is really important that as many students as possible attend. It is essential that all students are accompanied by a parent or carer. The evening will give you an opportunity to understand the range of qualifications available for your child and help you to become familiar with how our Options system operates.
On the evening, you will be given a copy of the Options Booklet, and you will then be able to speak to staff from each subject area to find out more about the GCSE courses they are offering, and to ask the important questions that will help students to make their choices.
In addition, there will be a Senior Leadership presentation to ensure that you all have the information you need about the process, including where and how students will submit their options choices. This presentation will take place at 5.15pm. During this time, the subject stalls will be closed and will reopen again at the end of the presentation at 5.45pm, until the event closes at 7pm.
Literacy support, SEND support, Careers advice, and Post 16 providers will be in the Café between 4-5.15pm, and then again between 5.45-7pm, to meet with students, parents and carers to offer support and guidance.
To support our Muslim families during this holy time of Ramadan, we will make a space available, together with water and dates, ready for the breaking of fast.
Looking ahead, the final deadline for making choices of options is Thursday 24th April and this will be done via the Student Portal. Where individual courses are oversubscribed, priority will be given to those learners who have submitted their choices by the deadline. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Information Evening on the 20th. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the evening or the options process in general, please email me directly at [email protected].
Yours faithfully,
Miss C Catlow
Deputy Headteacher
