TRS was bustling as it celebrated British Science Week from March 10–14, 2025. Students celebrated the wonders of science through a range of activities, anything from engineering challenges to explosive experiments to a spectacular planetarium visit.
Monday and Tuesday saw students get involved with bath bomb making and rocket blasting at lunchtime, both of which were fully booked and had queues out the door! A massive well done to Amsal in Year 7, who won the rocket competition, impressing with both design and flight.
Meanwhile, students were transported through the Solar System and beyond with a visit from the Wonderdome Mobile Planetarium. Their understanding of planetary interactions was strengthened by this amazing experience, which brought science to life in a way that was genuinely engaging.
As the week continued, students put their engineering skills to the test during KS3 science lessons. They constructed bridges and took part in the legendary Egg Drop Challenge, carefully designing parachutes before bravely launching their eggs from the school balcony. The suspense was intense, and the cheers were even louder when some eggs survived the fall unscathed!
During lunchtimes, students got stuck (quite literally) into slime-making, experimenting with different textures to create the perfect masterpiece.
The final two days were all about the power of flame. Students conducted flame tests, burning different powders to reveal stunning colourful reactions. They even tried their hand at flame writing, watching in amazement as fire traced intricate patterns through their designs.
Throughout the week, students were encouraged to take part in the poster making competition and hunt the scientist trail throughout school, with staff also taking part in quizzes of their own.
From start to finish, British Science Week 2025 was packed with energy, enthusiasm, and endless discovery. A huge thank you to all the students and staff who took part, making this a truly memorable celebration of science.
