This week we had the privilege of welcoming former Olympian Bex Wilson to our school to speak with our Year 9, 10, and 11 students. Bex shared her inspiring journey, from facing challenges during her school years and struggling with mental health to discovering her true self through resilience and hard work.
She spoke openly about the ups and downs she faced as a student, emphasising how those experiences helped her build resilience. Her honesty resonated deeply with our students, reinforcing the idea that setbacks can be stepping stones to success. She also encouraged them to reflect on their own journeys, recognising the value of perseverance and the impact of hard work in shaping their futures.
A key message from Bex’s talk was the importance of prioritising well-being. She spoke about maintaining good habits and ensuring you “fill your own jug”—a reminder to take care of yourself so you can be at your best. This powerful and timely message was particularly relevant as we approach Children’s Mental Health Week.

Bex also gave us a fascinating insight into her time as an elite athlete. She brought along her Olympic medal and specialist bobsleigh equipment, allowing students to see and feel the reality of her sport. Through her stories, she transported us to the intensity of Olympic training and competition, making the experience even more engaging. She also shared a motivational video of her journey, further reinforcing the importance of resilience, dedication, and self-belief.
Now the CEO of Stride, a Greater Manchester charity dedicated to empowering young people through sport, mentoring, and education, Bex continues to make a difference in the lives of young people beyond her sporting career.
It was a fantastic and motivating morning that left students and staff alike feeling truly inspired. Thank you, Bex, for sharing your story, wisdom, and passion with us!
