We are incredibly proud of former Head Boy Liam, Class of 2026, who has completed an extraordinary 100-mile running challenge throughout October, raising an incredible £1,050 for Young Lives vs Cancer.
Liam, who only took up running earlier this year, set himself the ambitious challenge of running 100 miles in just one month to raise money for the charity, which supports children and young people with cancer and their families.
Having never been a runner before joining Oldham and Royton Harriers in January, Liam has made remarkable progress in a relatively short space of time. What started as short daily runs has developed into a real passion for the sport, with Liam going on to complete his first 10K and tackle the notoriously challenging Oldham Half Marathon.
Throughout October, Liam demonstrated incredible commitment and determination, fitting in the miles and pushing himself to reach his goal. But it wasn’t just his running achievements that stood out. During the Oldham Half Marathon, Liam even turned back to encourage and support a fellow runner up the final hill, showing the same kindness and consideration for others that made him such a fantastic role model during his time at The Radclyffe School.
There were plenty of memorable moments along the way, too! From taking on runs dressed as Pitbull and Liam Gallagher to receiving a surprise handshake from Frank Rothwell OBE, Liam certainly made the most of the experience.
The challenge came to a fitting end at Oldham Parkrun, where Liam completed his final miles surrounded by the encouragement of friends and family.
Having originally set himself a fundraising target of £150, Liam went on to raise an outstanding £1,050, more than seven times his initial goal. Every penny will help Young Lives vs Cancer continue its vital work supporting children, young people and families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
As a former Head Boy, Liam was a fantastic ambassador for The Radclyffe School, and it is wonderful to see him continuing to demonstrate the values of respect, excellence and kindness beyond his time with us.
Congratulations, Liam! Completing 100 miles is an achievement in itself, but doing so to make a difference to others makes it even more special. Your determination, generosity and commitment to such a worthwhile cause are something to be incredibly proud of. We certainly are!
