Year 11 students at The Radclyffe School celebrated their GCSE results today, with staff praising their hard work, resilience and determination.
Students saw the results of their hard work, with individual achievements reflecting the progress they have made during their time at the school.
Gana Hegazy achieved seven Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and a Grade 7, while Che Whalley achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s. Tayyiba Begum came away with three Grade 9s, five Grade 8s and one Grade 6.
This year, The Radclyffe School recorded its best-ever percentage of students achieving Grade 7 or above in both English and Maths, at 12.8%. In total, 56.2% of students achieved Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, with 36% achieving Grade 5 or above in the two subjects.
Across all grades awarded to students, 15.2% were Grade 7 or above, 41% were Grade 5 or above and 58% were Grade 4 or above.
Headteacher John Cregg said, “I am incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved during their time at The Radclyffe School.”
“Results day is about much more than grades. Behind every result is a young person who has worked hard, faced challenges and taken another important step towards their future.”
“For some students, today marks the beginning of their next chapter at Sixth Form or college, while others are looking ahead to apprenticeships, training or employment. Whatever path they have chosen, I hope they leave us feeling proud of what they have achieved and confident about what comes next.”
“I would also like to thank our dedicated staff, who have supported, encouraged and challenged these young people throughout their five years with us. Their hard work and commitment have made a real difference to our students.”
“Finally, I would like to thank the families and wider school community who have supported our students throughout their journey. We wish every member of our Year 11 cohort the very best for the future.”
Students also reflected on their experiences at The Radclyffe School and their plans for the future.
Che Whalley was delighted with his results and is now going to Xaverian College to study Music, Music Technology and French.
He said the encouragement he received from staff at The Radclyffe School to pursue his passion for music had made a huge difference.
His mum added that “it’s been a brilliant school for him, the teachers have been so supportive of him, and he has grown from a shy young boy to an independent and thoughtful young man. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Lucy Needham, who achieved three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and a Grade 7, will be attending Crompton House Sixth Form to study Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A-Level. While she isn’t sure of her desired career path yet, her work experience at a pathology lab has provided some inspiration.
Millie O’Neill came away with three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and one Grade 7.
She told us, “I’m very proud of my results, I couldn’t be happier. Especially in Chemistry, I got a 9 and didn’t think I was ever going to get that. So, if you work hard enough, you definitely can.”
Looking ahead to her next steps at Oldham Sixth Form College, she added, “The Radclyffe School has given me a strong foundation for all of my future plans.”
Hamzah Ali told us he is “really happy with the results”, with four Grade 8s and four Grade 7s, and plans to go to Blue Coat Sixth Form in September.
Sue Webb, Chair of Governors, said, “On behalf of the Governors, I would like to congratulate all our Year 11 students on their results.”
“Every student should be proud of the commitment and effort they have shown during their time at The Radclyffe School. We would also like to thank the staff, families and wider school community who have supported them throughout their journey.
“We wish all of our students every success as they move on to their next steps.”
