The Radclyffe School Student Council aims to help students express those views effectively.
School is the place where young people spend the majority of their time. It is perhaps the most important community, other than home, in which we, as their teachers, participate in their education, social skills and pastoral care.
We promote the benefits of young people becoming part of the decision-making process that affects and improves their school lives, and will provides students with support for voicing their views and opinions.
Our Council aims to provide training, guidance and advice to empower students, and equip them with the vital skills needed to become actively involved in the decision-making processes in their own school communities.
Our Year 7 Council already has 12 enthusiastic students who are looking at Road Safety and issues around Homophobia and Racism.
The most recent joint enterprise for our whole KS3 Council has been involvement in the designing and marketing plans for a new school logo and motto.
Achievement & Access is a pivotal and essential Faculty of The Radclyffe School and we are committed to recognizing the needs, works and achievements of our School Council.
Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors support students and assist with induction day and primary liaison events. They also assist with delivery of initiatives such as Hate Crime, Anti Bullying and Mental Health.
Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors are recommended by Year Managers to assist with Parents Evenings organising teacher/parent appointments, meeting and greeting, help conduct surveys and serve refreshments
Student Ambassadors have a very important high-profile role within our school. The qualities necessary to be a successful Ambassador are; respectful, friendly, committed, motivated, polite, helpful, patient and who are passionate about life at The Radclyffe school.
The role involves working alongside Teaching and Support Staff and with other students represented from all year groups to promote and support the school during a range of events and activities throughout the year, mainly Parents’ Evenings.
It is a very flexible role and you may be called upon for a variety of reasons/events. The role requires the most committed, dedicated, enthusiastic, conscientious and adaptable people. Student Ambassadors can be relied and you must be happy and willing to support and promote our school on numerous out of school hours events. These may include:
- Parents’ Evenings
- Celebration Evening
- Open Evening
- Shows and concerts
- Visits to other community organisations
- Hosting events to outside visitors
Prefects
Prefects are selected in Year 10 at Easter to support faculties and whole school initiatives. There is a strict reward criteria applied with regards to attendance and behaviour.
The Radclyffe School Prefect Team
During Year 10 students are invited to apply to be a School Prefect.
A prefect at The Radclyffe School must, above all, be a positive role model. Prefects must be able to set the standard for the rest of the school in terms of behaviour, attendance, uniform, conduct, attitude to learning and commitment to school activities.
Successful applicants are assigned as a prefect to a faculty, and are expected to perform duties for this faculty. On occasion, this may, include extracurricular activities and events.
Prefects are invited toward the end of Year 10 to apply for the Student Leadership Team.
The Student Leadership Team
The aim of the Student Leadership Team is to take the initiative in improving three key areas:
- School Environment
- Student Welfare
- Teaching and Learning
Student Leaders may be asked to represent the student body at events such as: Staff interviews, Student Conferences, and may have to present items to the Senior Management Team at their meeting on behalf of the whole school body.
The Senior Student Roles are as follows:
- 2 Head Students (Usually a Head Boy and a Head Girl)
- Deputy Head Boy x 2
- Deputy Head Girl x 2
- G&T Student Ambassadors x 2
- Transition Ambassadors x 2
- End of Year 11 Ambassador x 2
The process to choose these students is made up of: a student campaign followed by a whole school student vote, shortlisting and an interview by Senior School Staff.
