The Eco-team
The Eco-team have introduced recycling for cans, bottles, paper, batteries. They have expanded the facilities in Café Mojo and D&T Food, and they have introduced paper recycling in classrooms, battery recycling points in staff room and main office. Pen recycling has recently now been introduced.
Dedicated litter busters who carry out a community litter pick each half term.
They are a carbon neutral team who look at sustainable living and ways we as a community can reduce our carbon footprint – This group work with Senior Managers and Kier to input making our school GREEN
FairTraders
The Radclyffe School supports Fairtrade.
They have introduced a 90kg rice challenge where individuals can purchase 90 bags of premium white rice from Malawi to enable a child to go to secondary school for a year. Rice is sold at events and to staff at £3 per kilo. There is also use of Fairtrade products at school events.
Radclyffe Refreshers
Group who support refreshments for after school events i.e. as school production, SPA events. Students tailor the offer to the faculty requirement/theme and any profit will go to charity
Charity Work
At The Radclyffe School we support a variety of charities both locally and nationally. Students are invited to join the Charity Team to organise and run various charity events. The charity events bring a sense of fun to our school environment, give a sense of belonging at the same time as raising essential money for needy charities. We support many charities including Children In Need, Comic Relief, Cancer Research, Mental Health Foundation.
Student Governors
We have a team of 3 from Years 8-10.
- They have an overall view of Student Voice activities and are represented on every group.
- They prepare and deliver to full governing body annually.
- They have built relationships with Mayor and Youth Mayor of Oldham
- They help support Oldham Youth Council initiatives ie. Make Your Mark ballot
- They also have a dedicated charity chosen by group – this academic year ‘Young Minds’ a mental health service for young people
British Values Team
This is a fluid team of students who get involved with various projects.
- Help to deliver our Dementia Friends sessions during Dementia Awareness week in May to Year 8 students
- Work on Democracy, collaboration with uniform services, respect, tolerance and cultural differences.
- Visit to Westminster / 10 Downing Street (annually)
- Afternoon tea for staff and other wellbeing projects i.e. Teacher appreciation day
- Noticeboard on street to promote British Values / Life in modern Britain
Student Focus Groups
This is a group of students who can be called upon to come together and discuss issues that will shape the way we run our school. These are usually one hour sessions where we focus on a key area and gather feedback which is presented in a one page document.
We have recently had input on PLG/Welcome & Wellbeing and AtL descriptors. We are currently working on changes to the school day.
TfGM Active Travel Ambassadors
This is a group of 12 students who are looking at ways to change the way we travel to school. Working with TgFM they will run a campaign to influence their peers to switch to more ‘active’ ways to get to and from school and promote walking and cycling. Students will also bid for funding for their idea in a ‘Dragons Den’ style competition.
