Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’
‘The Odyssey’ is an exciting ancient adventure written by the Greek poet, Homer. It tells the story of the hero Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way he faces dangerous monsters, powerful gods, magical islands, and many difficult challenges.
The story is full of action, bravery, clever thinking, and important lessons about loyalty, perseverance, and finding your way home. As you read, think about how Odysseus solves problems and what his journey teaches us about being resilient and determined – skills which we believe you will need to develop as part of your transition to secondary school.
Enjoy reading the first 6 chapters and we look forward to hearing about your thoughts in September!

Alongside the book, you will be given an activity booklet designed to support your reading of The Odyssey, with tasks linked to each of the first six chapters. Over the six-week holidays, you should read one chapter per week and complete the corresponding activities in your booklet as you go, continuing this routine until all six chapters have been covered. By the time you return to school in September, you will have a completed booklet ready to hand in, providing a strong foundation for your learning and a great start to your journey at The Radclyffe School.
