As the spring term draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has been a truly action-packed and inspiring few months here at The Radclyffe School.
From exciting guest visits and thought-provoking assemblies, to outstanding student achievements and vibrant enrichment opportunities, the term has been a real showcase of our school values in action.
January: Reflection and Inspiration
We kicked off the new year with our Year 10 Parents’ Evening, providing a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to connect and support student progress. Our Media Studies lessons were given a real buzz when the BBC paid a visit. We were also honoured to host a powerful and reflective assembly to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Year 9 student Asad also shared his moving experience of visiting Poland as part of the ‘Listen to the Earth’ project.
February: Wellbeing, Opportunity and Challenge
In February, we proudly marked Children’s Mental Health Week with a range of thoughtful and creative activities designed to support student wellbeing. We welcomed Olympian Bex Wilson to school, who delivered an inspiring talk to students. Our Year 11 students rose to the challenge of their PPEs, showing real resilience and determination. National Apprenticeship Week saw a range of exciting opportunities across the school, including the BAE Systems STEM Roadshow and a fantastic Industry Day. Chess fever took over, with Year 7 Alex beating Mr Davies in a closely fought match! We also celebrated the success of one of our talented alumni, James Walsh.
There were a number of enriching careers and subject-specific trips, including our Business Studies students heading to the University of Manchester to take part in a fast-paced Stock Market Challenge. And we relaunched our school newsletter! Check out the new look and read more here.
March: Culture, Celebration and Creativity
March was a whirlwind of activity! We celebrated World Book Day and National Careers Week, followed swiftly by our very own TRS Literature Festival, British Science Week, and Pi Day – all within the same week! A particular highlight was our special Iftar event, where students, families, and staff came together to mark Ramadan and share the experience of breaking fast.
The auditions for our upcoming school production of The Addams Family brought a real buzz to school life, and we welcomed a bestselling author as well as hosting poetry workshops. There was a wonderful celebration of culture, and we announced the winner of our school chess tournament – congratulations to Yamin!
Our Year 10 and 11 students benefited from inspirational talks on resilience and growth mindset, including a memorable visit from record-breaking mountaineer Akke Rahman. Azad in Year 10 continued to wow us with his beautiful nature photography, and Debate Club tackled complex issues like the death penalty. We also celebrated sports successes, shared more alumni achievements, and supported our Year 9s with their all-important Options Evening.
Meanwhile, our STEM on Track team have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on their entry ahead of the grand final, and Key Stage 3 students enjoyed a brilliant trip to France. With the sun beginning to shine, we also spent some time in our school garden, discussing some exciting future plans.
Throughout the term, students in Year 10 and 11 have made the most of our free online tutoring programme, showing great commitment as they prepare for their upcoming GCSEs. It’s fantastic to see such high levels of engagement and determination.
