Trestle Theatre mask workshop
“The mask informs the face, and the face informs the body.” This was just one of the lessons students learned as they took part in a special workshop using traditional theatrical masks.
Audrey from Trestle Theatre brought along a selection of masks and explained their history and significance. Acting in a mask makes body language more important – the actor cannot talk or make any sound.
Head of Drama Miss Taberham said, “The students were looking forward to try on the masks. They had to decide for themselves which emotion each mask represented and act in that way. The lack of detail on the masks meant they had to do all the work to display the emotion, and the more exaggerated they could do it made it all the better.”
