Vision
To impart the importance of being socially aware of the world around us and how this world, through the media, presents ideas, views, opinions and values. To allow young people to understand the impact and influence that the media has on them. To embed young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to identify and critique the different elements of the media in which we are all immersed in. To develop critical thinkers and young people who consider and question the world in which they live.
Year 10 Curriculum Intent
By the end of 10 learners are able to understand and be aware of the different strands of the theoretical framework of Media Studies and to be able to able this knowledge to the analysis of Component 1 texts. Learners are able to explain how different media industries operate; how they target audiences and how audiences respond to these media products. Learners are able to support all of this with relevant, appropriate theories.

Year 11 Curriculum Intent
By the end of Year 11 learners are able to confidently and accurately apply all the different strands of the media theoretical framework to all forms of media: both the set texts and, where appropriate, unseen examples. They are able to confidently respond to a range of exam-style questions based on these different types of media and apply appropriate media language and context where necessary. Learners are able to converse about the world in which they live and how the media that they are exposed to affects them.
