As you may be aware, the land immediately to the south of the school, known as Broadway Green, is at present a large building site. A joint venture by Oldham Council and the developer Foxdenton LLP is creating new employment space and up to 500 new homes.
As part of the development, work has begun to create a new link road, Lydia Becker Way, which will run through the site.
The final phase of the new link road, which connects Foxdenton Lane and Broadway is set to begin this November and is expected to last until October 2020.
The main part of this work is the decommissioning of Crossley Bridge, the old railway bridge located north west of the Ancora Restaurant. A new signal-controlled junction will be installed on Broadway.
Broadway will remain open throughout the works, though there will be restrictions, including lane closures between Hunt Lane and Newman College, which are likely to add to congestion on this busy route and will have an impact on journey times.
If your child travels to school by car you may wish to make alternative arrangements during the course of these works. Please consider, where possible allowing your child to walk, even for part of the journey to keep congestion around Hunt Lane to a minimum. Cycling and public transport are also good alternatives.
