At the end of the school year we say goodbye to another fantastic group of students, but again we have not been able to do this in the way we would have liked. Year 11 have missed out on their Prom and staff have missed out on a chance to wish them well for the future.
Since the Government announced in January that formal exams would not take place this summer, we have planned for students to be assessed and graded in a way that is both fair and robust. These assessments took place earlier this term before our Year 11s left school. There was a brief opportunity for staff to say goodbye, and for students to celebrate this milestone as they move on to many new places, whether for study, training, or the world of work. We are immensely proud of the way our students have coped with everything they have had to face.
As the summer holiday begins, so restrictions on events and social distancing should begin to be relaxed. As a result, we are hoping that students will be able to receive their results in person at school on GCSE Results Day, Thursday 12th August. We will confirm this with Year 11 as soon as we can, but hopefully it will be another step in getting school life back to something more familiar.
For any students who don’t feel comfortable attending in person, we will send their results by email at the same time as students collect theirs at school.
A final occasion we can also look forward to in the autumn is our Presentation Evening held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham. This again is subject to whatever restrictions may be in force at the time, but we are optimistic that this celebration can go ahead.
Our good wishes for the future to all of our Class of 2021!
